Organic Golden Cherries grown in unspoilt natural surroundings!
What’s New:
Our organic golden cherries were awarded the Fairtrade logo in July 2011, together with our organic sour cherries, organic sweet cherries, organic almonds, organic sugar almonds, organic water melons, organic honeydew melons, organic tartar beans, calypso beans, organic chickpeas and organic sesame (brown and black).
150 small family farmers in “Turkiston Gulba” near Samarkand received the certification. The farmers supply our Uzbek subsidiary and processing company, “Silk Road Organic Foods” with certified organic Fairtrade cherries for processing and drying. During 2012 we plan to include more organic commodities such as organic walnuts, organic apricots, organic pomegranates and organic raisins in the Fairtrade project, as well as gradually taking in more organic small farmers.
Fairtrade Premiums, Fair prices, financed in advance, long-term trade relations with the farmers and social justice: these are just a few advantages of our Fairtrade products, which are being made visible and transparent for our customers using the Fairtrade logo.
Origin and quality:
Here’s a great way to produce organic golden cherries - use conventionally grown trees for organic cultivation!
It really is true: wild-growing golden cherries are harvested in areas never having had contact with pesticides or other biocides.
Our organic golden cherries are from a remote, untouched area in an organically-certified natural conservation area in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is in Central Asia, along the famed Silk Road.
Our company, Marap GmbH, has been working with our 100% owned subsidiary Silk Road Organic Foods for many years. In Uzbekistan our subsidiary, Silk Road Organic Foods Organic Garden, harvests our cherries with the greatest care. Silk Road Organic Foods has its main processing plant near Samarkand and is specialized in the production of vegetarian vegan organic products, especially organic dried fruits and organic nuts. The goods go through gentle, environmentally friendly processing. Marap and Silk Road Organic Foods are regularly controlled by ABG (Austria Organic Guarantee) and certified according to EG Organic Regulations (EU 834/2007) and NOP Regulations (Nation Organic Programme). Furthermore, we are IFS5 certified, on a higher lever at 100%.
The golden cherry tree is part of the rose family (prunus) – these trees beautify their remote surroundings every year with their white-pink blossoms and pleasant sweet smell.
Our golden cherries grow wild. They are harvested in Uzbekistan when ripe, washed, pitted and gently sun-dried (solar dried). Our recently developed drying method in our solar drying plant (reduced C02 emissions) has a minimal impact on the product and the environment, guaranteeing that all important substances remain intact.
It goes without saying that our high-quality yellow organic golden cherries do not contain any preservatives or dying agents. To guarantee that no pesticides are used, they are controlled batch-wise by independently accredited Austrian laboratories.
Cherry pits or pit fragments spoil your enjoyment of the product. We solve this problem by having all our organic golden cherries laser cleaned several times after processing. The laser cleaning is carried out in St. Poelten (Lower Austria) in an ultra-modern plant. This laser cleaning ensures that only the best and cleanest products come onto the market. Any damaged cherries are removed. Laser cleaning also sorts out small stones, leaves, stems, soil, wood and other foreign bodies which may still be in the product. Please note: Should you want to have your products laser cleaned, for example, walnuts, cherries, apricots or other pip or stone fruits, we can do this for you after receiving your specifications and requirements.
Our organic cherries are also pressure treated in order to rule out any loss of quality caused by insect. We use the so-called Carvex C02 pressure treatment for our products. Using the environmentally friendly C02 gas (carbon dioxide, or briefly carbonic acid) any pests in the products are rendered harmless.
Serving Suggestion:
The fruity-sweet taste of our dried organic golden cherries makes them the ideal vegetarian (vegan) raw food product for snacking, since 100g organic golden cherries contain only 1,4 g fat.
Dried organic cherries add a pleasant fruity sweet taste to mueslis, cakes, desserts and jams. We also heartily recommend fruit and nut mixes with sour and sweet cherries, which you can buy from our brands Lifestyle Organic and Pearls of Samarkand. Here you can find, amongst others, our Cherry Mix (golden cherries, sour cherries and sweet cherries) and our organic Naked Power Snack.
Every single golden cherry you eat does your body some good, since golden cherries have a natural antioxidative capacity of 3,365 µmol per 100 g (ORAC Value) or 350-400 mg anthocyanins in 100g.
